Job Description Job Description Primary Position Objective
Responsible for delivering counseling services to assigned
residential and non-residential students in personal and social
development, career employment, and behavior. Provides individual
and group counseling and crisis intervention to all students. Brief
Description of Duties Contact assigned students prior to scheduled
arrival to welcome them, and provide information about the center,
reiterating behavioral standards and expectations, following the
center script to ensure students are fully aware, ready and capable
to successfully enroll and complete the program Meet and greet
assigned arrivals at the designated time on the center or at the
determined travel termination point, as assigned. Provide ongoing
intensive interventions with students accumulating NIRs, unexcused
absences, intervention case notes. Conduct and document an intake
assessment, including student history, during the first 24 hours of
enrollment. A copy of this assessment will be submitted to the
Health and Wellness center for review and inclusion in the student
health record. Provide ongoing structured, scheduled, and
documented individual social development and adjustment counseling
weekly during CPP (first 60 days) and monthly thereafter. Document
sessions in case-notes. Schedule and conduct monthly group support
sessions designed to identify and address specific issues, such as
abuse, relationships, child care, homesickness, language and
cultural barriers, etc. Ensures that each assigned student attends
a group or enhancement program Provide support, collaboration with
other staff, weekly contact with CPP students (first 60 days),
establish and develop personal and career goals, ensure early
separations (pre-90 days) are diminished. Establish positive
interventions with individuals and groups of students performing
positively, to include activities and interactions both on and
off-center. Manage and monitor case load with frequent CTT and
academic classroom visits to observe students, interact with staff.
Collaborate with residential, recreation, career transition and
instructional staff to case manage student progress, concerns and
achievement of PCDP and other goals etc. Identify students who need
more intensive services and referral to such services, ensuring
intervention, implementation, and documentation of strategies to
address personal issues, including mental health, medical issues,
and English Language Learners. Ensure that maintenance of records
of individual counseling sessions are documented in case notes in
the RAP format: 1. The R eason for such session, 2. An A ssessment,
and 3. A P lan of action with appropriate follow-up. Ensure all
documentation occurs same day as contact - exceptions are not the
rule and kept to a minimum. Ensure all interventions (both positive
and negative) are documented appropriately in case notes or
counseling file, if appropriate Implement safeguards to assure that
personal information about individual students, subject to the
Privacy Act, and advising student of the same. Collaborate with
each student to initiate a Personal Career Development Plan (PCDP),
which shall document the student's personal career goals, training
needs, challenges, and progress and accomplishments throughout
enrollment and the post-center Career Transition Period. Update
student's Personal Career Development Plan (PCDP) on an ongoing
basis, in cooperation with appropriate staff, no less frequently
than at each student's regularly scheduled progress evaluation. The
PCDP shall be updated and maintained using the Job Corps automated
system. Students shall be provided copies of their PCDPs whenever
changes are made to the plan and at separation. Ensures the
availability of counseling services on weekends and in the event of
emergencies. Provides support services, to include assisting with
UA retrieval; conferring with parents, admissions counselors,
career transition specialists, and social service agencies; and
providing referrals to community resources, as appropriate. Know
and stay current on industry certifications offered and
requirements for attainment. Interact and share information with
other departments and community resources, as needed and in
accordance with Student Rights to Privacy and Disclosure of
Information, to ensure the coordinated delivery of services to
students, especially in assisting them to meet the rigor of the
training program. Ensure that each student participates in ongoing
evaluations, with appropriate staff, at least every 60 days.
Provide each student with a schedule of individualized projects and
activities to assist him or her in meeting the Career Success
Standards in which a "Needs Improvement" rating is received on the
CS-SET or ESP. Participate actively in Career Management Team (CMT)
panels when students are being recommended for transition into CPD
and CTR/CTS. Ensure PCDPs are updated, resumes are uploaded,
transitional needs assessment are completed and referrals made, and
ensure students' job search strategies are recorded on PCDPs.
Conduct and document UA retrieval efforts in CIS and forward UA
occurrence documentation to student records. Assist the student in
arranging return transportation, at the student's request and
expense. Monitor, encourage, support, and enforce center attendance
rules. Assist students in requesting and obtaining approval of
leaves and passes. Safeguard minor students in accordance with the
limitations established by their parents or guardians. Perform
other duties as assigned. Qualifications To perform this job
successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential
duty satisfactorily. Proficiency with advanced Microsoft Office
applications including Word, Power Point, Outlook, and Excel.
Computer Literacy with basic computer functions, email, internet,
and basic programs such as Adobe Acrobat. High level of
communication, interpersonal skills, and organizational skills.
High level of ability to motivate, inspire, and counsel students
effectively. Knowledge of career planning, job search strategies,
and interview preparation. Experience One year experience in
counseling or related field. Education Bachelor's degree, including
15 semester hours of instruction in social services-related
instruction Certificates/Licenses/Registration Valid State Driver's
