Southeast Arkansas College (SEARK) is a publicly-funded, comprehensive community college located in Pine Bluff, Arkansas. The College has been designated as a "Primary Black Institution" (PBI), recently receiving a $1.2 million, five-year PBI grant from the U.S. Department of Education. In 2021, SEARK College was admitted as a new cohort member of "Achieving the Dream" (ATD). The College is currently finalizing a $42 million capital construction project that will build a new 30,000 square feet Student Center, 316 units of on-campus residential housing, and a solar field to help reduce energy costs/consumption.. Job Description:. The Vice President for Academic Affairs serves as the Chief Academic Officer and is responsible for the leadership and supervision of college-wide academic credit, non-credit, and technical instructional programs. Works in collaboration with area Deans to administer instructional programs. Evaluates academic programs and standards, oversees the management of academic operations, faculty utilization, and faculty professional development. Ensures the College's compliance with regulatory agencies, including the Higher Learning Commission (HLC); serves as the institutional Accreditation Liaison.. Specific Duties and Responsibilities:. Provides administrative leadership, supervision, goal-setting, planning, problem-solving, evaluation, and personnel management. Provides direct supervision of the Dean of General Studies, the Dean of Nursing and Allied Health, and the Dean of Technical Studies.. Assures the availability of properly credentialed full-time and adjunct faculty to meet curriculum delivery requirements.. Complies with accreditation requirements from the Higher Learning Commission and other regulatory agencies.. Makes recommendations for hiring faculty and staff with input from the deans, college faculty, and staff.. Provides leadership in curriculum planning, program development, establishing partnerships, and articulation agreements with other higher-learning institutions.. Coordinates textbook adoptions in assigned instructional areas; paying particular attention and utilizing Open Educational Resources (OER) and online textbooks.. Analyzes program data and makes recommendations regarding course and program additions/deletions and consolidation.. Oversees the academic program review process.. Coordinates with Deans/Department Chairs in developing priorities that support Southeast Arkansas College's strategic plan.. Initiates and coordinates instructional research related to instructional programs and makes recommendations for new academic programs/certificates.. Oversees the faculty evaluation process.. Oversees and monitors the budget process for all assigned areas.. Oversees the master schedule committee, maximizing efficiencies while maintaining educational outcomes.. Oversees dissemination of the academic calendar and production of the course schedule.. Serves as a member of the Executive Cabinet and other committees/councils as assigned.. Performs other tasks, duties, and responsibilities as assigned.. Desired Skills and Characteristics:. Knowledge and ability to develop and implement applicable policies, procedures, and administrative decisions.. Strong commitment to innovative practices in teaching/learning.. Ability to listen, understand, and respond positively to resolve inquiries and complaints from employees, students, regulatory agencies, or members of the academic community.. Ability to create a team-oriented climate. Develop and support relationships with compassion and sensitivity while demonstrating a cooperative, professional attitude.. Demonstrated proficiency using contemporary software packages.. Strong communication skills, both written and oral.. Ability to safeguard sensitive or confidential information from intentional or unintentional disclosures.. Minimum Qualifications:. A minimum of five years of progressively responsible administrative experience is required, including:. Development and administration of budgets.. Experience with the selection and professional development of faculty/staff.. Teaching experience in higher education and a thorough understanding of the teaching/learning process.. Experience with accreditation and the accreditation process.. Master's degree from an accredited college or university.. Other job-related education and/or experience may be substituted for all or part of these basic requirements, upon approval of the qualifications review committee.. Preferred Qualifications:. An earned doctorate degree from an accredited college or university.. Administrative leadership at the Department Chair level, Dean's level, or equivalent position in a community college or university.. Verifiable experience with community college completion initiatives such as Achieving the Dream (ATD) and/or Complete College America (CCA).. Application Deadline:January 7, 2022..
