The Director of the Learning Resource Center (LRC) is responsible for strategic planning, operational management, budget formulation and management, personnel management, procedure development and policy implementation, and program development for the learning resources of the College, including the LRC. Both directly and through the training and supervision of staff, the Director is responsible for all electronic information resources, databases, and instructional media services for the College and its constituents in accordance with the College's mission, goals, and curricula. The Director also develops and implements a program of academic services and support to assist students in becoming independent learners, and coordinates LRC activities with other divisions and departments to provide synchronized and quality services to students. The Director supervises the Distance Learning Specialist, the Instructional Designer, LRC staff, and tutoring services.
Job Duties and Responsibilities:
--- Collaboratively plan, coordinate, and evaluate learning resources and instructional media services. Provide leadership in developing access to electronic information resources and multimedia products, collection development, and otherwise working with faculty and college departments to augment materials andinformational services that support the teaching/learning functions of the College.
--- Develop and maintain an atmosphere that fosters learning and encourages students, faculty, and community members to use the facilities and services.
--- Formulate, implement, and evaluate policies and procedures for the use of the LRC and instructional media materials, equipment, and facilities.
--- Collect data, analyze efficacy of services, and prepare reports as directed.
--- Orient, supervise, and evaluate personnel.
--- Support a comprehensive tutoring and tutor training program
--- Manage the use of the LRC's computer lab.
--- Maintain a supportive learning environment in the LRC.
--- Prepare and administer the annual budget for the LRC.
--- Lead outreach activities such as workshops, seminars, speaker series, etc., to promote student engagement with the LRC and its services.
--- Develop and educate students and faculty in the effective use of the LRC and its services.
--- In conjunction with LRC staff, develop, implement, and assess plans for continuous improvement.
--- Collect, analyze, and use relevant data to inform decisions about the LRC's operations, policies, and strategic direction.
--- Maintain knowledge of current developments and trends in technology, best practices and innovations related to LRC operations, and the Center's role insupporting student engagement and success.
--- Establish personnel responsibilities, accountability standards, and work schedules for assigned staff.
Minimum Qualifications:

  • Education: Master's degree in Education, Technology, Library Science, or related field from an accredited institution.
  • Experience: Three or more years' full-time experience in a higher education setting. Demonstrated supervisory experience.
  • Certification or Licensure: None.
  • Training or Technical Skills:

    • Working knowledge of the Internet and commonly used computer software (Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint); and
    • Training and technical skills such as highly proficient use of online search and online resource database technology.

      Other job-related education and/or experience may be substituted for all or part of these basic requirements, upon approval of the qualifications review committee."

      Preferred Qualifications:

      • Current skills in a wide range of technologies relevant to operating a community college LRC and related tutoring services.
      • Ability to analyze trends in academic student support, tutoring, and online education and to extrapolate their appropriateness to the College's current and futureneeds.
      • Knowledge of current trends in leading and operating a community college LRC.
      • Excellent English communication skills, both written and oral.
      • Ability to interact effectively with a diverse staff and student population.
      • Ability to work independently.

        Special Demands:
        Work primarily in a climate-controlled environment with minimal safety/health hazard potential. Sedentary, sitting, walking, occasional lifting (overhead, waist level) from floor, bending, frequent near vision use for reading and computer use; occasional stressful situations and/or situations involving complex interpersonal communication. Some evening and/or weekend work may be required.
        Salary: Commensurate with qualifications and experience.
