Job Description:
Responsible for providing physicians and therapists with
treatment planning and calculations and custom MLC as needed for
patient treatment, taking required measurements on patients,
consulting with physicians and therapists in planning and
delivering patient treatments and maintaining quality control on
treatment through chart checks.This position offers a $5,000
sign-on bonus and a hybrid work schedule (with at least one
required in-office day per week).JOB SPECIFIC DUTIES AND
RESPONSIBILITIES:Takes patient measurements and contours to be used
in treatment planning and dose calculations.Prepares blocks, bolus
material, positioning devices, and other treatment aids and checks
treatment aids for suitability and accuracy.Completes proper
records, patient data forms, report forms, chart documentation and
billing information logs for all treatment planning, calculations,
patient measurements, chart checks and handling of radioactive
sources.Consults with physicians and therapists to obtain
information for patient planning and dose calculations, and to
investigate problems in patient treatments or set-up techniques,
recommends solutions to problems, reports results to supervisor
when adverse reactions occur, or when no solution to the problem is
reached.Performs checks on patient charts for accuracy and proper
documentation according to established procedures.Performs
treatment planning and dose calculations using computers,
calculators and manual techniques for external beam and
interstitial or intracavitary therapy of patients.Analyzes machine
malfunction and communicates with engineering department.Monitors
and adheres to general radiation safety guidelines.Develops and
maintains a positive and professional work climate and the overall
team effort of the institution and CARTI.Performs related
responsibilities as required or directed.Maintains confidentiality
of all patients, employee, and institutional information.Assists
radiation therapists with patient set-up procedures at treatment
machine andor simulator as needed.OTHER JOB REQUIREMENTS:May be
required to travel to satellite CARTI facilities.May be requested
to be called back as needed in emergency cases.EDUCATION,
CERTIFICATION, LICENSURE, REGISTRATION:Current certification or
certification eligible as a Medical Dosimetrist by the Medical
Dosimetry Certification Board.Current valid Arkansas Drivers
License.EXPERIENCE, SKILLS & KNOWLEDGE:Knowledge of institution and
department policies and procedures, chart coding, scheduling,
physician protocols or (written directive), equipment operation,
maintenance, safety and quality control guidelines.Skills in CARTI
physics procedures and techniques acquired during a six-month
training period.Previous experience in computerized treatment
planning.Treatment planning and dosimetry skills as normally
acquired in a one-year training program in medical dosimetry under
the direct supervision of a medical physicist, or prior
certification.Technical skill in mathematics and physics as
normally acquired in freshman and sophomore college level
coursework for science majors or in completing an approved school
for radiation therapy.Skill and proficiency in the principles,
concepts and techniques of the dosimetry profession. Such
proficiency as normally acquired through completion of an
accredited dosimetry program, or 2 years of on-the-job
training.REASONING ABILITY:Ability to solve practical problems and
deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only
limited standardization exists.Ability to interpret a variety of
instructions furnished in written, oral, or schedule
form.INTERPERSONAL SKILLS:Interpersonal skills to interact
effectively and professionally with patient, families, medical
staff, CARTI personnel, public and hospital personnel to
communicate pertinent information on a continuous
basis.Interpersonal communication skills with patients, physicians,
therapists, and students for the purpose of patient treatment,
simulations, measurement and treatment planning and instruction on
a frequent basis.Communication skills with other departments and
personnel to exchange information, obtain or schedule services and
coordinate patient activities on a continuous basis and with other
outside agencies/institutions on a frequent basis.Ability to use
tact and diplomacy in making recommendations, reporting errors or
problems, securing information or discussing patient treatments
when dealing with physicians and therapists on a frequent
